Synopsis

A special flashback arc rewinds to the origin of the Arakawa school. Enthralled by the artistry of the first Shiguma, Kashiwaya Seiroku, a young Issho and Shiguma become his disciples and polish their craft side by side in peaceful, happy days. Then, one fateful day, that calm shatters. When Urara tells Akane the hidden story of how the Arakawa school was born, Akane finally grasps the weight and the tangled history of the art she is inheriting. Also includes the youth-comedy one-shot "Tatarashido."

We learn that Issho and Shiguma were once brother disciples raised under the same master. A scandal that led to Seiroku's expulsion became the spark for the school's split, cracking the two men apart. Shiguma's obsession with the "expelled art" and Issho's more pragmatic path turn out to be the true root of the present rivalry. Hearing this, Akane realizes that inheriting Shiguma's rakugo means accepting the whole burden of the school's history, not just its technique. The past arc closes by planting seeds for the coming competition.
