Synopsis

The "Impure King" — a demon that killed over forty thousand people in the late Edo era — was once destroyed, and its "Left Eye" was sealed away at True Cross Academy. But now that relic has been stolen. Learning that the thief has barricaded himself with a child as a hostage, Rin storms the scene alongside Yukio. The affair spirals into a vast conspiracy over the "Right Eye" resting in Kyoto's True Cross Academy, and the fate carried by Suguro and the other Kyoto students is confronted head-on. As those who fear the blue flames and those who choose to trust them are put to the test, the threat of the Impure King's revival draws ever closer in this Volume 5, surging toward the Kyoto arc's climax.

The Left Eye was stolen by Todo, a man who once admired Shiro Fujimoto but strayed from the exorcist path, now scheming to revive the Impure King and take revenge on the world. He heads for Kyoto's True Cross Academy to seize the "Right Eye," with Rin's group in pursuit. It's told in full that Suguro's family temple guards the Impure King's seal, and the strife between father and son rises to the fore. The group endures the gaze of adults who see flame-bearing Rin as a mere weapon, yet steels itself to fight beside him. The story hurtles toward the worst-case scenario — both eyes reunited and the Impure King reborn — spilling into the all-out battle of the next volume.
