Synopsis

Ichigo's band of Soul Reapers throws itself head-on against Grimmjow's Arrancar squad. But these foes are elites handpicked in Hueco Mundo, and their overwhelming power drives the Soul Reapers into desperate struggles across the city. One by one their comrades are cornered, and the whole town teeters on the brink of annihilation. With the limiter lifted, the captain- and lieutenant-class officers release their true zanpakuto and steadily overwhelm the Arrancar squad. Ishida and Chad fight fiercely too, and the tide turns toward the Soul Reapers. Yet the real threat is Grimmjow, and his fated clash with Ichigo heats up. Other Arrancar appear as well, exposing the fathomless scale of Aizen's forces. This volume is the counteroffensive phase driving toward the climax of the arc's first half, hinting at the turning point where Ichigo draws his own Hollow power into battle, with the team's teamwork and personal growth vividly on display.
