Having carefully stacked up everything so far, Near turns his suspicion of the second L — Light — into conviction and begins to shake the Japanese task force itself. Light, in turn, uses his pawn Mikami to try to lure Near into a trap. The war of nerves, with neither side yielding a single move, is honed to its limit as the story drives toward the brink of the final showdown.
