Synopsis

Light and Near finally reach the day of the last showdown. Volume 12 is the full settlement of the Kira case. Near’s SPK and Light’s task force face off in a warehouse, and the “other Death Note” Mello left at the cost of his life flips the board. Near has already swapped the notebook; when Teru Mikami tries to write the investigators’ names believing he holds the real one, a faint difference in feel exposes the fake and Light’s perfect scenario collapses. Cornered with proof he is Kira, Light Yagami sheds the mask and rages as Kira himself. Touta Matsuda’s gunfire wounds him; as he flees, the shinigami Ryuk writes “Light Yagami” in the notebook. With Light’s heart seized, the game of gods and humans born from the Death Note ends, leaving only a quiet aftertaste for those who survive.
