Synopsis

Invited to the Morizono mansion on the eve of a wedding, Conan and Heiji Hattori instead walk into a murder. The victim is the household butler, Shigematsu, and the two young detectives quickly realize they face a perfect sealed-room killing. Teamed with Osaka's own high school sleuth Heiji, Conan's deductions fire on all cylinders as their battle of wits heats up. From there the volume rolls on to a train mystery aboard the sleeper express Hokutosei and a case that drags Sonoko into danger, delivering tough puzzles across travel and everyday life. Once again the pint-sized detective lays bare the truth.

The mansion murder relies on a time-lag trick that made the room look locked, and Conan and Heiji dismantle it together from a small wrongness at the scene. The culprit is a member of the household tangled in inheritance and old resentment, with years of feuding behind the motive. On the Hokutosei sleeper express, the confined moving train and a fabricated alibi intertwine, but Conan uses the onboard fittings as his opening to pin down the killer. In the case targeting Sonoko, Conan reads the mastermind's intent in advance and stops it before harm is done. The back-and-forth deductions with Heiji make this volume's climax burn even hotter.
