Synopsis

Conan and the Detective Boys head out for some ocean fishing. On the way home, riding in a boat piloted by Subaru Okiya, who came to fetch them in the professor's place, they stop at a rock formation called Unicorn Rock. There they find freshly carved words on the stone, "mackerel, sea bream, carp, flounder," a brand-new diving fin wedged in the rocks, and the body of a young female diver who appears to have died of dehydration. Beyond this seaside puzzle built on a strange dying message, Volume 64 strings together emotive cases involving a whistling man and a boy from someone's memories, all while a larger case looms on the horizon.

⚠ Spoiler warning — tap to reveal
At Unicorn Rock, the carved "mackerel, sea bream, carp, flounder" is a dying message, and Conan reveals that rearranging the fish names points to the culprit. The victim was trapped in a staged accident and driven to death by dehydration. In the whistling man case, an offhand whistling habit becomes the decisive clue that identifies the criminal. Subaru Okiya moves with cool composure throughout, and an unsettling shadow flickers around his true identity. Conan carefully untangles the malice hidden within these fragments of everyday life, one strand at a time.
