Synopsis

Volume 68 is a lavish outing in which the Detective Boys, at Jirokichi Suzuki's request, take on the Phantom Thief Kid head-on. Even Conan gets swept up in this "match of the century" staked on a treasure. The long-running romance between Inspector Shiratori and Ms. Kobayashi finally reaches its resolution, bringing closure to their years of mutual pining. Also collected are a strange "Bird Man" case set at a Tori-no-Ichi fair and an arc marking the worst birthday of Eri Kisaki's life, blending Kid's dazzling tricks with heartfelt character drama.

In the Detective Boys vs. Kid arc, Kid slips in disguised into a treasure hunt game staged by Jirokichi, but Conan spots him through subtle slips in a member's words and behavior. The treasure is merely a device to make the game fun, and Kid departs having achieved his aim. Shiratori and Kobayashi's romance is sealed when it is revealed they met as children, followed by Shiratori's formal confession. In the Bird Man case, the culprit disguised as a rake-seller at the fair is undone by the craftsmanship of his wares. In Eri's birthday arc, Kogoro's clumsy gesture finally conveys his feelings for his wife.
