Synopsis

With everyday life restored, Fairy Tail's biggest annual event arrives: the S-Class Wizard Promotion Trial. Master Makarov selects eight candidates, each of whom must pick a single partner and set out for Tenrou Island, the sacred birthplace of the guild. Natsu teams with Happy, while heavy hitters like Lucy, Gray and Erza form their own pairings. But the trial is a brutal gauntlet that pits comrades against one another — and the magic buried on the island, along with an ominous shadow closing in on this place, will soon rise up before them all.

The first stage is a merciless elimination round that forces the chosen candidates to fight each other. Natsu clashes with Gray, and the rest square off against rivals of their own, laying bare the gaps in strength and growth within the guild. Cana's long-held secret — her feelings toward her father Gildarts and her fierce hunger for S-Class — is quietly drawn out. Then the presence of the Black Wizard Zeref begins to hang over the island, and the dark guild Grimoire Heart makes its move on Tenrou. This is the uneasy prologue where a pure trial arc tumbles into one of the series' greatest wars.
