Synopsis

In the late stages of the Alvarez war, Volume 49 pits Fairy Tail against the Empire's strongest mage, August, and the looming terror of the Black Dragon Acnologia. Through the fight with Jacob Lessio and its aftermath, Gray and Natsu are forced toward an ultimate choice over the Book of E.N.D. Makarov invokes Fairy Law, staking his own life to shield the guild and the town. The past of Zeref and Mavis — the curse of immortality and the bond of a doomed love — is laid bare, and the cruelty of the fate that killing Natsu would also erase Zeref reaches its peak.
