Synopsis

Toushi, the otaku personality once born inside Hijikata by a cursed blade, makes a jaw-dropping comeback. Through one thing after another, he ends up locking horns with the fanatical bodyguard squad over the top spot in idol Tsu Terakado's official fan club, obliterating the Demon Vice-Commander's dignity in the process. Toss in the tangled lives of men grumbling at a food stall and a panic over a strange new virus sweeping Edo, and you get a volume overflowing with laughter and chaos. Hideaki Sorachi's gag sense runs wild without restraint in this densely packed installment.

Hijikata, hijacked by his Toushi persona, throws himself into an all-out fan-activity showdown with Tsu Terakado's bodyguard squad, dragging everyone around him into pandemonium. Some trigger eventually snaps him back to normal, only for a punchline to hit as he loses his memory and blushes at his own bizarre antics. In the new-virus arc, a disease that changes people's personalities spreads across Edo, pulling the Yorozuya and the Shinsengumi into a frantic back-and-forth. The food-stall grumbling chapter lets down-and-out men air their true feelings, quietly painting the humor and bittersweetness of soldiering on into tomorrow.
