Synopsis

Former yakuza boss Jirocho, his daughter Hirako, the scheming Kada, and the drag-queen empress Saigo all collide as their agendas clash violently. To protect the place they call home, Gintoki and the others steel themselves to fight the Four Devas of Kabuki District. Soon an all-out war erupts that shakes the entire town. Just as the badly outnumbered Odd Jobs make their desperate stand, unexpected reinforcements come charging in. Volume 35 drives the serious Kabuki District Four Devas arc straight toward its climax.

The Four Devas arc plunges into all-out war, with the feud between Jirocho and Kada and Hirako's inner conflict intensifying all at once. Against the forces targeting Otose, Gintoki widens the front, pulling in the Shinsengumi, Katsura, and even Saigo's drag-queen army. When the cornered Odd Jobs seem doomed, an unlikely crowd of allies gathers and the people of Kabuki District rise up in a stirring turn. Gags are set aside for a serious run where Gintoki's bravado and his bonds with his comrades erupt. Tension peaks toward the showdown with Jirocho — one of the series' finest arcs.
