Synopsis

Ippo Makunouchi's run at the East Japan Rookie King reaches its heart. Grinding through wars with heavy hitters, Ippo learns hard that raw slugging alone won't beat every opponent. Here Ippo is thrown off by an unorthodox stylist, hitting a wall where his usual power game fails. Early on he can't close the distance, but through Kamogawa's coaching and his own sharp eye he finally reads the rival's rhythm and lands the turning blow. After the bout, even if his own gym's Miyata isn't next, the shadow of that destined foe crosses his heart. One rival falls, and the finalists for the Rookie King crown take shape. The finish leaves Ippo's growth feeling undeniably real.
