Synopsis

More than two years have passed. Having completed grueling training under Jiraiya, a taller and far stronger Naruto returns to the Hidden Leaf Village. Reunions with familiar faces like Kakashi and Sakura fill him with joy, but there is no time for sentiment. Gaara, now the Kazekage of the Sand, has drawn the attention of the mysterious tailed-beast-hunting organization known as the Akatsuki. The curtain rises on a new, world-spanning conflict in this stormy opening volume of Part Two.

The grown-up Naruto teams with Sakura for a bell-test against Kakashi, and their coordination stuns their old teacher. Meanwhile, in the Sand Village, the Akatsuki's Deidara and Sasori strike. Now Kazekage, Gaara confronts Deidara alone to protect his village but is worn down by the bomber's explosive clay and defeated. He is carried off alive so the Akatsuki can extract his tailed beast, Shukaku. On receiving the urgent news, Naruto and the others rush toward the Sand to rescue him.
