Synopsis

Natsume encounters a boy named Kai trapped in a dilapidated house, unaware that this rescue will entangle him in a web of ancient spirits and human obsession. As Kai becomes a target for entities craving his unique power, Natsume must also contend with Natori, a professional exorcist who views the boy as a dangerous anomaly. In this volume, the fragile boundary between the spirit world and humanity tears apart. Natsume chooses to follow his own heart, continuing his quiet mission to return names, even as the weight of the Book of Friends threatens to consume his resolve.

The bond Natsume forms with Kai, a boy harboring the essence of a powerful spirit, forces him into a conflict that pits his morality against the harsh reality of exorcists. While ancient spirits hunt Kai to claim his inherent strength, Natori intervenes with cold precision, determined to neutralize the boy by any means necessary. Natori’s rigid worldview, forged in his own traumatic past, clashes violently with Natsume’s empathy. As Natsume maneuvers between protecting Kai and facing the tactical scrutiny of his friend, he unearths the tragic history hidden within Kai’s imprisonment. Through this struggle, the significance of the Book of Friends evolves; it is no longer just a burden of names, but a lifeline that validates the existence of those discarded by both worlds. By the time the dust settles, Natsume realizes that returning names is not merely a task, but an act of grace that defines his own place in a world filled with both light and shadow.
