Synopsis

The Great Age of Pirates has begun, sparked by the execution of the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, who left behind the fabled treasure One Piece. Young Monkey D. Luffy, who accidentally ate the Gum-Gum Fruit and turned his body to rubber, sets out to claim that treasure and become the next King of the Pirates. Carrying a promise made to the red-haired pirate Shanks, Luffy recruits his first crewmate and takes the opening steps of an ocean-spanning legend.

Shanks loses an arm saving Luffy from a Sea King, then entrusts him with his straw hat, telling him to return it once he becomes a great pirate. Luffy sets sail with that hat as his treasure. He frees the bounty hunter "Pirate Hunter" Roronoa Zoro, strung up in a Marine base by the tyrannical Captain Morgan, and Zoro joins as the crew's first member. Wielding his three-sword style, Zoro carries a vow to his late friend Kuina to become the world's greatest swordsman.
