Synopsis

In search of a sword to replace his broken reverse-blade, Kenshin seeks out Arai Seiku, son of the legendary swordsmith Arai Shakku. The Shinuchi, the very last reverse-blade sword Shakku ever forged, is the weapon Kenshin needs for his showdown with Shishio. But Kamatari of the Ten Swords sets his sights on that blade and turns on the Arai family. A sword forged to protect the defenseless must never become a tool for killing. Repelling Kamatari's assault, Kenshin receives the second reverse-blade sword Arai Shakku left behind: the Shinuchi. It is a memorable moment where the swordsmith's prayer, poured into a blade that never kills, aligns perfectly with Kenshin's sword of atonement. Armed with a new partner that surpasses the broken blade, Kenshin begins his march toward Shishio's stronghold in earnest. In parallel, Aoshi and the Ten Swords' schemes stir, and the full scope of the plan to burn Kyoto starts to emerge. This volume is a waypoint for gathering gear and resolve, a firm run-up to the successive battles with the Ten Swords and the final clash with Shishio.
