Volume 28 is the payoff to the prisoner-transport assault that boiled over in volume 27. Tanabata’s cold command, Torres’s precision, and Gozu’s beast-force keep crushing the line even after Kamiki, Daibutsu, Amane and the rest of the JCC force pile in. Shin’s growth and Kindaka’s craft buy seconds, not safety; every choice of who to cover first feels dirty under the bright Jump choreography. The pivot is Taro Sakamoto waking up—not as a pure nostalgia flex of his peak killing aura, but as a convenience-store manager who remaps a battlefield the way he remaps aisle sightlines and register flow. He fights to stop, not to finish, and that refusal scrambles the assassins’ logic harder than a finishing move. Shin rewrites his own limits watching his master’s back; Kindaka drills battlefield manners into the next generation while bleeding for them. Gozu’s charges, Torres’s craft, and Tanabata’s tempo keep shredding formations just when the heroes think they have rhythm. Mid-volume flips between duel spotlights and messy group melees. Someone wins a corner and someone else goes under in the next panel. The temperature gap between Sakamoto Store’s “protect the family” and JCC’s institutional mission supplies both gags and knives. By the end the Sakamoto side has air in its lungs again—but the reformed Order still has cards unplayed, and the transport incident does not fully close. The brawl meant to buy a way home becomes the doorway into a larger war. Volume 28 is where the “daily life comedy with knives” fully slides into all-out campaign mode.
