Synopsis

Tatsuya Yoigoshi is a former star soccer player who has come to loathe sports. On his first days of high school he's recruited by an oddball club: the kabaddi team. Certain the sport is a joke, he sneaks a look at practice only to find a brutal, equipment-free team game blending mind games, feints and full-contact clashes. Volume 1 follows Yoigoshi as he collides with the real, ferociously physical world of kabaddi and slowly realizes it is nothing like the punchline he imagined.

Yoigoshi goes in mocking kabaddi but gets utterly dominated when he faces a raider, stunned by the split-second reversals and raw stamina the game demands. Humiliated by how wrong he was, his fierce competitive streak ignites. Dragged along by Azemichi and the other members' gritty passion, he keeps insisting he won't join even as his body drifts back onto the court. The volume closes hinting that this boy, who once gave up on greatness in soccer, is about to throw himself fully into something again.
