Synopsis

Kainan's shrewd coach Takato instantly sniffs out the fatal weakness of Hanamichi Sakuragi—a raw "amateur" with only a few months of basketball behind him. Targeted relentlessly, Sakuragi suffers the humiliation of being benched. But with Akagi injured and a gaping hole under the basket, he charges back onto the court. Pressed by the champions, Shohoku keeps clawing back, but Kainan's raw quality is the real thing. The game stays knotted to the end, and Sakuragi—stung by the loss—grows into his identity as the man who owns the paint.
