Synopsis

In the second round of the Inter-High, Shohoku faces Sannoh Kogyo, the reigning national champions and untouchable favorites. On paper the gap in ability is enormous, yet Shohoku attacks from the tip-off and stuns everyone by ending the first half up by two. Then the whistle blows for the second half, and the true power of the champions erupts. A suffocating full-court press and overwhelming individual talent flip the game on its head as Sannoh pulls away. Sakuragi, Rukawa, Akagi, Miyagi and Mitsui must find a way to answer an impossible deficit in one of the series' greatest battles.

Sannoh's press swallows Shohoku whole and the lead balloons toward twenty points. But Akagi's stubborn pride, Mitsui's threes and Miyagi's speed slowly claw the momentum back. Shohoku simply refuses to break, and that defiance starts to rattle even the champions. Meanwhile Sakuragi finally sheds his rookie clumsiness and awakens into a real basketball player. Carrying Coach Anzai's words, these players who never give up crack the fortress of the kings, setting the stage for the legendary finish to come.
