Synopsis

Ryota Miyagi, Shohoku's other troublemaker, finally returns after a hospital stay from a brawl. He and Hanamichi Sakuragi clash at first, but two unlucky-in-love hotheads recognize each other fast and become fast friends. Miyagi's lightning dribble makes him a sparkplug despite his small frame, yet his comeback seems to invite an even bigger storm brewing around the club. A pivotal volume as Shohoku's cast of misfits starts to gel into a team.

Miyagi officially rejoins, and with Akagi, Rukawa and Sakuragi, Shohoku's core takes shape. But the mood darkens: former junior-high MVP Hisashi Mitsui storms the gym at the head of a gang of thugs, out to wreck the basketball club. Using a grudge against Miyagi as his excuse, Mitsui's assault spills into the next volume, while hints quietly build that no one loves basketball more than he does.
