Synopsis

The final volume, where the long summer—and the long story—reach their end. Battered right shoulder and all, Tatsuya Uesugi pours his whole being into pitching to the finish on the Koshien mound Kazuya dreamed of. Beyond winning or losing lay closure with his late brother and the feelings for Minami Asakura he could never voice. The bond among the three, told through Adachi's many silences and blank spaces, is at last tied together in honest words. Aftertaste over spectacle, people over victory—a gentle, heart-stirring finale worthy of Touch as the culmination of a youth.

In the final volume, Tatsuya pitches the Koshien game through to the end, fulfilling what he had to in Kazuya's place. More than the game's outcome, what's depicted is the relationship between Tatsuya and Minami afterward. A scene arrives where Tatsuya at last tells Minami, plainly and directly, the feelings they had both long hidden. Minami answers in kind, and the two step from childhood friends into a real couple. The story that began with Kazuya's death quietly lowers its curtain as those left behind face forward and start walking. A fresh, warm ending, unmistakably Adachi.
