Synopsis

Volume 18 delivers another round of gleefully absurd slapstick from Ataru Moroboshi, bearer of the unluckiest face around, and Lum, the lightning-charged alien girl. Fresh oddballs and supernatural visitors descend on Tomobiki, and the usual crew of Mendou, Shinobu, Ran, Ten and Ryuunosuke dive headlong into the uproar. School events, seasonal festivities and guests from outer space keep upending daily life, while Ataru's bottomless appetite for pretty girls slams head-on into Lum's single-minded love. It's Rumiko Takahashi's sci-fi romcom at the golden peak of her craft.

Once again Ataru hits on every gorgeous woman and alluring monster that appears, only to be charred by Lum's merciless lightning each time. Ran's scheming, gender-bending gags around Ryuunosuke and the runaway excess of the Mendou fortune all tangle together until the ruckus balloons into a town-wide meltdown. Yet whenever real danger strikes, Lum unfailingly throws herself in the way to protect Ataru, and he, behind all his snide remarks, clearly isn't entirely displeased. The finale reaffirms that beneath the loud chaos, a stubborn, lifelong bond truly ties these two together.
