Ataru's wandering eye is in full force this volume, as he charges after any cute girl he sees and gets roasted by Lum's lightning every single time, like clockwork. Monstrous visitors and cosmic nuisances turn Tomobiki into a stage for constant mayhem, and Ataru always brings the comeuppance on himself. Lum yells at him nonstop yet never abandons him, swooping in with her electricity whenever real danger strikes. In the end, the recurring punchline drives home to readers and characters alike that these two, forever bickering, simply cannot stay apart.
