Synopsis

The unluckiest man alive, Ataru Moroboshi, and the alien girl Lum keep their runaway romantic comedy rolling in volume 8. Tomobiki town grows ever more crowded with oddball characters, as lost aliens, absurd inventions and seasonal festivals all spiral into full-blown pandemonium. Ataru's weakness for pretty girls and Lum's jealous lightning are as strong as ever, dragging Mendou, Shinobu and Lum's childhood friends into the slapstick. The line between everyday life and the extraordinary has vanished entirely in this Rumiko Takahashi world, bursting with laughter and manic energy.

Every time a new beauty or strange guest appears, Ataru drools shamelessly and gets fried by Lum's merciless lightning. Cosmic troubles and runaway gadgets engulf all of Tomobiki, but even on the brink of collapse things always snap back to normal. Lum's childhood friends and Mendou's intrusions throw the romantic web into deeper chaos, with no one's feelings ever fulfilled and only the uproar left behind. There is no decisive shift in their relationship, yet it is clear Ataru can never truly push Lum away. Beneath all the noise, the stubborn bond between the two grows steadily firmer.
