Synopsis

Deep inside the Soul Society, the war against the Soul Reapers finally erupts in earnest. Fresh from besting Ikkaku Madarame, Ichigo pushes toward the Repentance Cell where Rukia is held, while his friends fight their own desperate battles across the walled city. Ganju barely fends off Yumichika, and Orihime and Ishida square off against a towering captain-class foe. When Ichigo at last reaches the white tower where Rukia awaits execution, a familiar figure blocks his path: Renji Abarai, the childhood friend turned enemy. Old bonds and bruised pride collide as their rematch begins.

Ichigo crosses blades with Renji once more, and his sheer will to save Rukia lets him overcome the gap between them and defeat Renji outright. As he falls, Renji entrusts Ichigo with his own wish: save Rukia. But the victory is short-lived. Word of Renji's defeat reaches Captain-General Yamamoto, who orders the captains into full deployment. The true might of the Gotei 13 now bares its fangs, and Ichigo's fight is about to plunge into a far deadlier realm.
