Synopsis

Denji is a broke teenager drowning in his dead father's debt, scraping by as a devil hunter with only Pochita, a chainsaw-shaped dog devil, for company. His dream is embarrassingly small: to eat bread with jam and sleep in a real bed. When the yakuza who own him sell him out and slaughter him, Pochita merges with his corpse and grants him a second life. Now Denji can pull a cord in his chest and become Chainsaw Man, blades roaring from his head and arms. Taken in by the enigmatic Makima, he joins Public Safety and steps into a world far stranger than poverty.

Volume 1 turns on Pochita's sacrifice. Torn apart by the Zombie Devil, Denji is revived when Pochita becomes his heart, asking only to one day see Denji's dreams. Reborn as Chainsaw Man, he shreds the yakuza and their zombie horde in a bloodbath. Makima arrives, claims him as her "dog," and offers him a human life in exchange for hunting devils for Public Safety. He meets the wild Blood Fiend Power, and the volume races toward their pact to rescue her hostage cat by killing the Bat Devil together.
