Synopsis

Just as Denji starts getting used to the "normal life" he fought so hard for, catastrophe strikes. Katana Man, a monstrous figure with a blade jutting from his skull, storms Public Safety's Tokyo Special Division 4 alongside a girl who commands the Fox Devil. Their target: Denji's heart, the power of Chainsaw Man. The ambush cuts down comrades one after another, cornering even Himeno and Aki. Amid the carnage Denji revs his chainsaws again, and a brutal duel of blade against saw erupts. Hidden hands pulling the strings and the shadow of the Gun Devil tear mercilessly into the boy's fragile daily life.

Volume 3's gut-punch is Himeno's death. The Katana Man assault brings Division 4 to the brink; Himeno fails to summon the Fox Devil and, in the end, offers her entire body in a contract with the Ghost Devil, vanishing to shield Aki. Denji clashes with Katana Man but nearly loses his heart in a grueling fight. Behind the city-wrecking massacre lies a conspiracy of anti-Public-Safety yakuza, the devil hunter Akane, and fragments of the Gun Devil. Faced with a comrade's death, Denji sees how fragile his "ordinary wish" truly is, and the story deepens into revenge and loss.
