Synopsis

L's task force secretly flies in FBI agents to tail Kira suspects across Japan. But Light senses the surveillance and, with an intricate trap, learns the name of every agent and wipes them out in a single stroke. Light exploits a bus hijacking to manipulate FBI agent Ray Penber, obtains the full list of agents on his trail, and slaughters them all at once. Naomi Misora, whose fiancé was among the dead, closes in on the truth on her own and becomes Light's deadliest threat. Yet Light coaxes her real name, Shoko Maki's alias unraveled, out of her, writes it in the Death Note, and erases her with a staged disappearance. No evidence remains; L is certain Light is Kira but has no killing blow, and only the net keeps quietly tightening.
