Synopsis

Volume 18 is one of the series' great turning points. As Conan works through everyday cases, the shadow of the Black Organization finally falls hard across the story. A mysterious girl arrives as a transfer student in Conan's class, and a woman in black going by the code name "Sherry" sets the plot racing. What happens to those who betray the Organization? The transfer student turns out to be Shiho Miyano, the Organization scientist code-named "Sherry." After her sister was murdered by the group, she fled and swallowed APTX4869 — the very poison the Organization developed — shrinking like Conan and surviving as "Ai Haibara." In other words, the creator of the drug that turned Shinichi into a child and the one person who truly knows his secret arrive at once. As Gin, Vodka and the Organization's hunters close in, Conan protects Haibara, and the two become allies sharing each other's secret. Her arrival opens the possibility of an antidote to APTX4869, keeping the thin road back to Shinichi alive — a genuine branch point in the series.
