Synopsis

Takasugi and Kamui lead a strike force to storm the ninja village of Iga in their bid to assassinate the Shogun. The Yorozuya, Shinsengumi, and Oniwabanshu rise to defend both the Shogun and Iga, igniting an all-out war against the Kiheitai-Harusame alliance. As the village burns, the pride and grudges of the ninja collide. At last Gintoki and Takasugi—who once fought under Master Shoyo for the same cause—cross blades face to face, each staking his convictions. One of the fiercest battle volumes in the series.

The assault leaves Hattori Zenzo's village on the brink of ruin as Sarutobi Ayame and the Yorozuya fight desperately. Kagura confronts her brother Kamui once more, tormented by their shared blood. The climax is Gintoki versus Takasugi—a duel carrying the weight of Shoyo's death and the paths each man chose. Just before the outcome is decided, a third party's blade cuts in, wrenching the battle in a direction no one foresaw. The dialogue between two men haunted by their teacher's shadow sets up the crucial next volume.
