Synopsis

To force the shutdown of the nanomachine virus that has kept them from invading Earth, the Liberation Army finally abducts the developer Gengai, and to make sure he cannot refuse their demands, they lock a weapon capable of erasing an entire star in a single blow onto the planet. Under the twin threats of hostage and doomsday device, Earth is driven to the deepest despair it has ever known. Yet before those still fighting for humanity's survival, unexpected reinforcements no one saw coming appear, sending the tide of battle swinging once more. Hideaki Sorachi's endgame erupts with the bonds of comrades and the sheer will to strike back.

⚠ Spoiler warning — tap to reveal
Crushed by the double bind of the weapon's targeting and Gengai's captivity, Earth's side is transformed by unforeseen reinforcements — old friends from the Joui War and aid from various factions. Gin and the others move to rescue Gengai, and a do-or-die struggle begins to stop the weapon from firing. The presence of Utsuro, pulling the strings behind the enemy, deepens its shadow, revealing a cosmic-scale grudge far beyond a mere invasion. Paying a price, Earth's side seizes a sliver of hope, and the story accelerates toward the next volume's decisive battle in which the Kiheitai lay down their lives.
