Synopsis

Saichi Sugimoto earned the nickname "Immortal Sugimoto" for his ferocity in the Russo-Japanese War. Now a civilian in desperate need of money, he heads to Hokkaido during its gold rush era. There he learns of a legendary fortune in gold hidden by the Ainu, its location split into tattoos carved onto escaped convicts from Abashiri Prison. After Asirpa saves Sugimoto from a bear, the two forge an uneasy partnership. The gold's location can only be revealed by collecting every tattooed hide, turning each escaped convict into a walking piece of the puzzle. Asirpa's late father is hinted to be tied to the treasure. What looks like a simple hunt quickly widens as the Seventh Division army and remnants of the old shogunate reveal their own claims, setting up a brutal three-way war. Asirpa's cooking lessons and Sugimoto's reactions become an instant trademark.
