Synopsis

Sugimoto and Asirpa cross paths with Shiraishi, the legendary escape artist, and try to recruit him as a key to decoding the tattoos. Lieutenant Tsurumi of the Seventh Division enters the fray in earnest, revealing a charismatic yet unhinged command style. Brutal bear fights and winter hunts showcase Asirpa's survival skills and Sugimoto's nerve. It is reinforced that the tattoos only form a map when combined, accelerating the struggle between those who gather the hides and those who steal them. Hijikata's old-shogunate faction begins to stir as well.
