Synopsis

Hinata declares he'll stop closing his eyes during the freak quick. Wanting to widen his attacking options, he longs to keep his eyes open and choose his own spikes. But Kageyama flatly rejects the idea, and a crack forms in the once-unbeatable rhythm of the duo. After facing national-caliber powerhouses on the Tokyo trip, Karasuno realizes their weapons still fall short. Can the two clash their way into evolving their combo quick to the next stage? Individual growth and team chemistry intersect in a volume that hints at Karasuno's coming leap.

The heart of this volume is the clash and reconciliation between Hinata and Kageyama. Hinata, who wants to "hit with his eyes open," collides head-on with Kageyama, who clings to their absolute quick (Hinata swinging blind while Kageyama delivers a perfect toss). Through live play at camp, the two gradually grasp what the other means, and the seed of a "new quick" - where Hinata chooses his spike from the fastest approach on his own will - is born. It's the first, painful step of breaking their old weapon to rebuild it. Exchanges with Tsukishima and other schools' players deepen too, and Karasuno heads home from Tokyo a clear notch stronger, steadily laying the foundation to break through the national wall.
