Synopsis

Fueled by the frustration of losing to Aoba Johsai, Karasuno sets a new goal and starts moving forward again. A training trip to Tokyo, packed with powerhouse schools, is set, and just as the club buzzes with excitement, an unexpected wall appears: final exams. Fail them and you're cut from the trip, unable to join the others at camp. But Hinata, Kageyama, Tanaka and Nishinoya are all teetering on the edge of failing grades. This is a lighter interlude blending serious and comedic beats about the "student" pitfall lurking in a volleyball-soaked life, before the story moves toward encounters with national-level rivals waiting on the trip.

This volume leans heavily comedic. Scrambling to dodge failing grades, Hinata and the others study desperately with help from their seniors and Tsukishima, barely clearing make-up sessions to earn their ticket to Tokyo. Once the stage shifts to Tokyo, the mood changes entirely as Karasuno dives into a joint training camp with powerhouses like Nekoma. There, Hinata and Kageyama feel firsthand just how far their quick and skills hold up against national-caliber opponents. Notably, Tsukishima begins facing his own gap in passion - "why get that desperate?" - planting the seed for his later growth. It's a pivot volume where Karasuno's horizon expands from the prefecture to the whole nation.
