Synopsis

Kan Ki versus Ri Boku—the fateful second day begins. 233 BC, the Battle of Gian between Qin and Zhao. Having barely escaped the overwhelmingly disadvantageous Gishi Plain, Kan Ki enters Gian Castle, seized earlier by the Hi Shin Unit. For a Qin army clinging to a sliver of hope for a counteroffensive, the next key point is Sekirei Castle—where the Heki Army, having likewise broken through Ri Boku's encirclement, is headed, though the situation awaiting them is anything but gentle. A summit clash of commanders unfolds deep within Zhao. As the long night finally breaks, the battle lurches in a direction no one foresaw. A tense midgame peak of Hara's Warring States saga.

The focus of this volume is Qin's twin strongpoint battles: Kan Ki's army holding Gian Castle and the Heki Army marching on Sekirei Castle. The question is how to tear through Ri Boku's encirclement and build a foothold for reversal, and Kan Ki keeps shifting the situation with unorthodox judgment. How long Heki can endure Ri Boku's heavy assault is the source of tension, with Qin's defensive line walking on thin ice. As dawn breaks the battle advances a stage, and the Kan Ki–Ri Boku duel gathers the scent of resolution. The Hi Shin Unit is entrusted with the next move, and every piece begins to move toward the climax of the whole Gian battle.
