Synopsis

One night, countless alien parasites rain down on Earth. They crawl into people through the ear or nose, devour the brain, and wear the body like a mask to hunt other humans. When one burrows into ordinary high-schooler Shinichi Izumi, it fails to reach his brain and lodges in his right hand instead. The creature, which names itself Migi, is forced into an uneasy partnership with the boy it could not fully take over. Migi never reaches Shinichi's brain, so it settles into his right hand as a thinking, talking partner with its own agenda. A parasite posing as teacher Ryoko Tamiya hides in plain sight at Shinichi's school, quietly studying how humans live. Experimenting on a stray dog, Shinichi learns just how much Migi has rewritten his body, and how many predators already walk among ordinary people. The everyday world curdles into a hunting ground, and Shinichi realizes he can never go back to who he was. The volume closes with a parasite closing in on his home.
