Synopsis

At Asakusa's Hanayashiki amusement park, Ryotsu and the three Giboshi sisters discover an old-fashioned panda car ride. With little Mikan utterly hooked on it, Ryotsu declares he'll take the panda car to go see a real panda, sparking a downtown-wide uproar in the title story "The Panda Car." This expanded volume packs in seventeen stories, keeping Ryotsu's trademark habit of running wild whenever a child's pure excitement sets him off, all colored by the nostalgic streets of Kameari and Asakusa in a collection of self-contained gags.

Eager to delight Mikan, Ryotsu illegally modifies the panda car and tears down public roads at full speed. He storms all the way to the zoo trying to introduce her to a live panda, causing chaos that inevitably brings the police and Chief Ohara's wrath down on him. Broke from repair and modification costs, exasperating Reiko and Nakagawa, Ryotsu still looks satisfied seeing the kids smile. The seventeen bonus stories wrap up with his usual trio of schemes, fads, and old-town heart.
