Synopsis

In Volume 110, Shiro Yamaoka and Yuko Kurita keep meeting the food and people of Japan through their reporting for the Tozai News "Ultimate Menu." This volume shines a light on regional climates and seasonal bounty, digging into why a flavor can only exist in one particular place. The sparks with Yuzan Kaibara's "Supreme Menu" fly as ever, and from judging ingredients to debating cooking methods, the food philosophies of father and son collide head-on. Portraying the wisdom and warmth behind everyday meals, it shows the enduring strength of the series.

The highlight is a contest over a regional food culture nearly lost to the cities. Against a fashion for efficiency and looks, Yamaoka defends "the taste of a place" born of its water, climate, and human hands, while Kurita's reporting on the producers' lives lends it force. Kaibara presses with refinement as his weapon, but in the end a plain, humble dish wins the room, and both sides agree that "fine cuisine rests on its terroir." A character who had belittled food changes their mind and resolves to protect local flavors, closing on a warm aftertaste.
