Synopsis

On his way to Kyoto to stop Shishio, Kenshin visits his old master, Seijuro Hiko, the swordsman who once taught him the Hiten Mitsurugi style. Without mastering its ultimate technique, he cannot hope to defeat Shishio. But the reunion reopens an old wound: Kenshin once defied his master's teachings to throw himself into the revolution. Kenshin begs Hiko to teach him the final technique, but the ultimate move of the Hiten Mitsurugi style cannot be performed without a fierce will to live. Having spent his life for others' sake, Kenshin finally masters the Amakakeru Ryu no Hirameki by, for the first time, wishing to live for himself. Reconciled with his master, he steels his resolve to face Shishio. In Kyoto, Aoshi and the Ten Swords' Sojiro maneuver ominously as the stage for the final battle is set. This volume is the deepest exploration of Kenshin's inner self, a run-up to the all-out war to come.
