Synopsis

In the second half, Shohoku has no answer for Sanno's relentless onslaught, and the gap keeps widening. Just as a mood of resignation starts to settle over the bench and the court, Hanamichi Sakuragi — the supposed amateur — muscles in his first basket of the half, lighting a small flame in the team. That single shot lets Shohoku slowly reclaim their rhythm. But captain Takenori Akagi is off. Standing at last on the national stage he longed for, crushed by the pressure and awed by the champions, the usually ironclad "Gori" spins his wheels. Can his teammates' words drag Akagi back into being Shohoku's pillar?

⚠ Spoiler warning — tap to reveal
Sakuragi's gritty basket shifts the momentum, and Shohoku claws its way back toward Sanno inch by inch. But Akagi is different. Facing the national stage he always dreamed of and the wall that is Kawata, his body seizes up and he strings together uncharacteristic mistakes. It is the sharp-tongued Kogure and his teammates' voices that slap him awake: if you aren't Gori, then who is? Shaking off his doubt, Akagi reclaims his throne under the basket and meets Kawata's brute-force battle head-on. With their pillar restored, Shohoku's counterattack finally begins in earnest.
