Synopsis

The search for the elusive Heaven goes on. Following the Kiru-beam mark, Maru and Kiruko leave the Takahara Academy site in Ibaraki and head for the Nara facility, still unaware that a relentless, brutal pursuer is closing in behind them. Meanwhile, inside the walled Heaven, the adults' struggle for power sharpens around the child Tokio has borne, until at last a Test is announced to the academy's children. On the road to Nara, Maru and Kiruko are attacked by a shape-mimicking Hiruko, bringing them a step closer to the truth of the calamity that turns people into monsters. Maru's power to purify by touch proves effective, thickening the hints that he is something special. In Heaven, the principal Mimihime nears death, and the executives wage a covert war over succession and control. The Test announced to the children is a cruel filter to select who can survive outside, cementing the picture that the sheltered paradise was really a selection facility all along. The gap between the two stories narrows for certain.
