Synopsis

Mikado City lives under constant threat from Neighbors, invaders who pour in through gates from another dimension. Osamu Mikumo, an earnest middle-schooler who dreams of joining the defense organization Border, meets a strange transfer student named Yuma Kuga. Yuma turns out to be from the Neighbor side, carrying overwhelming power and a carefree attitude that upends Osamu's careful life. Their meeting sets Daisuke Ashihara's sci-fi action in motion.

Yuma is a Neighbor who secretly wields a top-tier Black Trigger left behind by his late father. When Neighbors break through and attack the city, Osamu, forbidden to use a combat Trigger without a license, still steps up to protect Chika. Yuma crushes the enemy with his Black Trigger, and the odd partnership between the two boys is born. Border headquarters catches wind of the Black Trigger, pushing the story toward a much bigger stage.
