Synopsis

To plunge the human world into chaos, the powerful Four Beasts of the Demon World unleash Makai Insects that burrow into people's hearts. The infected turn violent one after another, pushing the city toward collapse. To destroy the insects' source and stop the plague, Yusuke teams up with his rival-turned-partner Kuwabara and former enemies Kurama and Hiei, storming Maze Castle where the Four Beasts lurk. This fifth volume launches full-scale team battles, as vicious demons wait on every floor of the fortress to sink their fangs into the four heroes.

The Four Beasts — Genbu, Byakko, Seiryu, and their leader Suzaku — each guard a gate of the castle. Kurama, Hiei, and Kuwabara defeat their respective foes, showing off their bond, until Yusuke confronts the leader Suzaku in the depths. Piercing Suzaku's lightning with his Spirit Gun, Yusuke wins and cuts off the Makai Insect threat. As former enemies Kurama and Hiei now stand beside him as comrades who trust each other with their lives, the prototype of "Team Yusuke" — the group that will carry into the Dark Tournament — is complete.
