Synopsis

The task force has Higuchi, the Yotsuba Kira, surrounded and closes in on the moment of a live confession. As the cornered killer makes his move, Ryuk — visible only to those who have touched the notebook — returns to the center of the story. Can Light get his hands on the Death Note again, and will the plan he laid before his confinement finally come to fruition? Higuchi is caught in the act, and the instant they touch the notebook, Light and Misa recover their memories as Kira. Light seizes the opening to kill Higuchi with a hidden scrap of the Death Note and turns on L once more. Then comes the great turning point: Light engineers a situation where L cannot write his name and manipulates Rem into sacrificing herself to protect Misa. L is defeated and dies, closing the story of the detective who chased Kira. The world falls under Light's rule as the new L, setting the dark stage for the second half.
