Synopsis

Ordered by the black sphere to hunt Miyamoto Musashi, Hanbei and the others are flung into a moonlit riverbed without explanation. What waits for them is not their target but a swarm of monstrosities warped into mockeries of human form. As comrades are torn apart and despair spreads, something long dormant awakens in the terrified Hanbei: a raw talent for battle that blooms with a vengeance. The slashing struggle to live begins.

The creatures on the riverbed are merely a culling on the path to Musashi. Realizing that fleeing means being cut down from behind while standing firm lets his blade land, Hanbei severs an enemy's vitals for the first time with trembling hands. Frightened by how quickly he grows used to the smell of blood, he learns to fight while shielding others. Masakichi survives only thanks to Hanbei's single stroke. But the sphere shows survivors no mercy. The true confrontation with Musashi still lies ahead.
