Synopsis

The heated Yorozuya vs. Shinsengumi gaming battle reaches its finale, plunging into an RPG showdown inside a virtual-reality world where an utterly unexpected "weapon" may decide the winner. On top of that: a sage-like old man tied to the Lake Toya swordsmiths, an ultra hero burning with justice, Gintama serving as defense attorney in the trial of a framed Madao, and a dead-serious struggle at a hellish fasting retreat. In the VR RPG showdown, Gintama's meta tactics that wreck the game's balance go off, turning the match against the Shinsengumi into an unexpected mudfight. In the end, the ridiculous exchanges along the way matter far more than who wins. The Lake Toya arc plants foreshadowing around the swordsmith Murasama, setting up important groundwork for the later cursed-blade arc. The Madao trial sees Hasegawa wrongly accused yet again, and the fasting-retreat arc climaxes with the starving cast running wild.
