Synopsis

Through Takasugi's ruthless scheming, Itou Kamotaro's ambition to seize the Shinsengumi crumbles. Yet rather than settling, things surge toward even greater chaos as Kondo's life is targeted. The Shinsengumi Crisis arc, which puts the bonds of Gintama, Hijikata and the corps to their greatest test, finally reaches its conclusion. Plus: Yamazaki's (living) funeral, Gin's heated lesson on drawing manga, the messiah-like arrival of Umibozu, Kagura's fluttering maiden heart, and even a turtle from the Dragon Palace. Itou allies with Takasugi and plots to assassinate Kondo, but in the end recovers his lingering pride and attachment to the Shinsengumi, only to fall to Kawakami Bansai's blade. As if inheriting his will, Gintama and Hijikata fight back-to-back in one of the arc's greatest scenes. Kondo is narrowly rescued, and the Shinsengumi overcome their gravest crisis to reclaim their unity. After the arc concludes, gag chapters follow, from Yamazaki's pre-death funeral to Kagura's not-quite-first-love maiden heart, wrapping the serious afterglow in laughter.
